Mea Culpa

I’ve been a bad blogger  and all I can say that I’m truly sorry.  I suspect that my cholesterol meds are the culprit — my beloved Dr, Maria doubled my meds  and I’ve been a train wreck ever since.  Have any of y’all had this problem?  Please let me know.  As it is, I’m damned terrified and I welcome your input.

Hmmmm . . . I have 30 minutes with nothing scheduled . . .

Sooooooooooo  y’all are probably wondering what’s been happening in Kay’s chaotic world (or is that Kayotic?)

I’ve been a very busy old lady the past few weeks.  Three round trips to Florida as well a hop across the pond to Ireland were part of the “fun” as executrix of Jeff’s estate  and helping his dad — no beach time or sight-seeing was on the agenda .  .  . probably this summer with Steve, Maureen, and Bill.

Needless to say ‘jet lag’ left me exhausted.   AND I came home to a sick computer that had to spend TEN days with the computer dude.   And to and anyone who sent me a nastygram (and a couple did) about not blogging — too bad.

My legion of doctors are stamping their feet that I’m not taking care of myself very well and they’re ordering test, tests and more tests.    Sigh.  My mom always says there’s no rest for the wicked so I must be pretty damned wicked given that I’m so exhausted.

That said, I’m going to get back into blogging mode and, hopefully, get back to a daily blog and  get around to visit all

y’all!!!

I know this is short but  duty calls.

Hope y’all are having a great day!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!

We have been very busy getting Jeff’s estate settled which turned out to be a pretty great surprise.  Leave it to Jeff to get a couple snarky zingers in his will while doing something awesome.  Steve, Maureen, his college roommate, Bill, and I were named administrators of a foundation that he and his dad put together and all of us are excited about it.

Alec wants wants to go back to Florida and we’re working out how we’re going to get Shaughnessy down there.  So far, it looks like Bill is going to drive the dog and I’m going to fly with Alec.   I have some things I can’t miss so I can’t stay. I’m beginning a new round of physical therapy.  Sigh.

I had a couple disappointments (gross understatement) but I’ll be fine. Bill says he’s going to hang around a while before he heads east so we can brainstorm Jeff’s legacy.

Hopefully, I can get back to a normal (or what passes for it in my world) soon.

Hope you all are well and happy!!!

The past few days I’ve been MIA and decided to at least let you, my blogging buddies, know that I am still here.  I’ve been staying with Alec and Shaughnessy (Jeff’s brilliant lab) to help them through this painful time for all of us.  We had a glorious wake — lots of great food and adult libations and hilarious Jeff stories — in what Alec said was true Irish tradition!!! Even our priest had a story about Jeff and I — that I had almost forgotten.  Let’s just say it involved Midnight Mass, Jeff’s Jewish college roommate (who came in for the funeral), and adult beverages. Today I have to get caught up on things like groceries and home stuff but I’ll be at Alec’s as long as he needs me.  Tomorrow we’ll be meeting with Jeff’s attorney.  And, hopefully I can finally get back to some of the things I need to do.

I hope all of you are having a great day and that I can get caught up with y’all soon!!!!

Life Intrudes on Blogging

The title says it all — I’ve been a very busy old girl.  One of my oldest and best friends passed last week.  So I’ve been buried — and not all of it snow.  I was twenty  when I met Jeff at the bar where we hung out when we were home from college or on leave from that nasty war.  It was summer in the 60s and I was taking a couple classes and working and he was on leave from the Marines.  He enlisted when he graduated from college because he had a low draft lottery number.   We became immediate friends.  Little did we know that what started as a flirtation would become a lifetime friendship and I’m trying mightily not too have a nervous breakdown.  I’ve lost too many people this year.

Jeff, who never married, passed away last week  — a heart attack — in Florida so I’ve been doing all I can to help his dad with the arrangements.  Jeff was an only child so there isn’t a lot family so our friends Steve and Maureen and I are working hard  to help.  His dad, Alec, is coming in this afternoon and I’ll be taking him home and staying whether he wants me to or not.  His health at ninety, is precarious and we worry.

We have everything pretty much organized.  I spent yesterday getting both houses ready and re-stocking the larder at both houses.  Steve and Maureen have been calling everyone and doing the bureaucratic stuff.  I’m glad because I hate it.

That said, I hope y’all are well and I’ll be around to visit as best I can!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!

We had another ton of nonstop snow dumped on us — it getting on my last nerve and everyone feels the same here.  I try to joke about it but it isn’t a laughing matter.  I hope it stops be cause I have an appointment for an MRI tomorrow and I hate to re-schedule!  Oh well!

My neighbor is coming over to commiserate — I think we’re all suffering from cabin fever.  Racy Gracie asked if she could come over to play cards and I said okay and we’d have a Spanish lesson, too!!!!

Short Reprieve

I’ve been battling the elements and trying to straighten out my horribly askew sleep patterns — always a challenge. My doctor is threatening to send me for testing but I’m resisting.  I’ve always been that way and probably always will be.

It looks as if we have had a short reprieve from the elements.  Hopefully, I can get out and replenish salt for the walks and steps.  Racy Gracie, my neighbor’s daughter is a great. ( For those of you who haven’t been with me long, I started calling her Racy Gracie when she was about six because she was always racing around on her little pink scooter.  She’s 11 now and has a 10-speed. )  I just called her mom to ask if she needs salt, too.  We take care of each other as we’re both single.  It’s a good thing and I feel so blessed to have her there.  I don’t have family here which is, at times, problematic and Michelle is godsend.

That said, I just realized that I have to go out today whether I want to or not!  Sigh.

The good news is that Gracie wants to come with me!

Happy Blogging!!!!

Blizzard Central and Other Nonsense

Tags

I think we got about six inches of the white stuff yesterday,  My neighbor’s son, Joey, dug out the first batch yesterday and we a got couple more inches last night and that’s my project when I get myself together as well as digging out Miss Ruby — my little red car. Then again, maybe not.  I  haven’t decided if there’s anywhere I really want to go.  Maybe I’ll just hibernate and make some calls. The good news is that the sun is shining and I’ve always felt that any the sun shines is a good day. The grey days we tend to have here depress me. Seasonal depressive disorder is rampant in Ohio and days like this are a treat!

Dr, Maris, the excellent lady who is my primary care doctor, called with my latest test results and guess what?  I get to go get another test!  The late, great Bette Davis said it best: “Getting old ain’t for sissies.”  I’m not complaining.  I just get weary of the growing list of ailments, doctors and prescriptions getting longer. I can’t wait to see what the pain management doc has in store for me. Sigh.

I’d like to know who sold my name recently.  This week my mailbox is overloaded with a ton of catalogs and promotions of all sorts — most of which I wouldn’t touch for love or money. Don’t y’all just hate that?

Not much is going on here. I’ve really get back to planning my blogs!

Happy Blogging!!!

Random Thoughts from Beautiful Ohio

The above is the title of our State song.  On days like today, I question it.   We are awaiting  what is probably our 3rd blizzard of the season and that over the legal limit even for Ohio..

My philosophy is that snow is a 4-letter word.  It’s pretty to look at and is great fun if you’re a kid or a winter sports fanatic but even then there’s a limit. Back in the 50s, my neighbor was a peninsula bounded by the Maumee Bay, the Ottawa River and Lake Erie.  Ice skating and hockey were popular with us kids. I liked hockey best.  It was a great way even scores and we were armed!  LOL  A lot of scores were settled on the pond in down the hill from our house.

There is an unwritten law here that when a severe winter storm warning is announced that we report to our local grocery to kvetch about the weather with our friends and neighbors.  I skipped this time-honored ritual because I did a big shop Sunday at the Evil Empire. Hopefully, I bought enough. Hope y’all stay warm and safe!!!!

Happy Blogging!!!!!
